LOOK OUT MOZART……well, get your Binoculars…lol

I’m getting alot better at my piano playing you guys! ONE day once I get over my nerves, I’ll post a video of what I sound like but so far, I’ve finished learning A Thousand Miles on going on to learn my favorite new song “Driveby” by Train! lol I just adore that song I could listen to it for days! So far I got the first half down. I know you guys probably won’t believe that I’m getting good until you actually hear me, but I’ve come along way. From one-handed, single finger key pusher, to this *growing* dynamic two-handed player. I’m enjoying it alot! So I’ve taken it upon myself to learn “chords”. Still not good at reading sheet music, I’ve actually kinda tossed that aside. I’m beginning to see that reading sheet music is not as important as I thought it was. I mean it’s cool for when you want to learn how to play a wide variety of songs but for people like me who just like making up sounds, stick to the ear-playing for a minute. After I learn Driveby, I will go back to K-Ci and Jojo’s “All My Life” and see if I can learn the song all the way through. Tutorials are great for getting the basics, but I have been adding my own flavor to it which is how it should be. You should enjoy what you do at least some time in your life right?

I’m enjoying the piano so much! I WILL get myself an acoustic piano one day. I think music would sound better if I knew how to do the pedaling on a regular piano as opposed to trying to make it sound that way on an electric keyboard, which I’m pretty good with. But I like the transitioning tone of one tone fading in after the new one pounds away. I like that. And I think an acoustic piano can bring that. But I will never toss this keyboard that I have aside! I will play that thing until it runs into the ground! It’s what started it all (well actually, the miniature yellow kiddie piano started it all…..lol!). Sooo yeah. Like I said, I’ve learned the chords. A, B, Bb, C, F, Gb, and G and all the majors, minors, augmented and diminished. Let me see if I can remember which one is which. Major is when the middle finger goes up a half step, minor is the middle finger going down a half step or note. However you say it. Augmented I believe is when the third finger (or last finger….ya’ll know what I mean!) goes up a half step and diminished is taken from the minor. So the middle finger would go down a half step and the last finger would go down a half step……am I right? Could I get an A+ in piano playing 101?!?!! lol

And to add to that, I’m also trying to learn the Blues Scales. I kinda got a cool tone down but I’m trying to work with a way to play it. That’s what I really wanna get good at is playing the Blues on the piano, I’ve ALWAYS loved that. But hey, playing favorite songs are cool too. *sighh…….. Gonna be a GREAT piano player ya’ll!…..well, at least good enough for when company comes over. Tee hee.

UGGGGH!!!! WordPress is TRIPPING with the video pasting! But PLEASE click >>>HERE<<< to watch this guy play “Driveby”. He plays by ear and it is the best one I’ve heard yet you will NOT be disappointed. You may even subscribe! 😉

Getting the Hang of Piano Songwriting?

Okay, I’ve been at this background melodies for my song “Butterflies” for awhile now. I was looking for something preppy and upbeat but at the same time, a kind of resonating tone that really reaches out like the song’s lyrics do. And I think I’ve FINALLY discovered it! Like I said, I’m still learning how to read chords and music so this may be my first actual test. I can tell you what key to press, but I’m not too sure how to name it though. lol But I’m so excited! It’s not the first song I’ve ever written, but it is definitely the first song I’ve ever created a melody for and actually be able to hear it without me having to hum along the tune of it. lol I feel so geeky! 😛

I don’t have the whole background melody clearly played out. It’s like stuck in the back of my head, but little by little it keeps coming on out.

And I must say, guess what song I’m learning (and have gotten quite good at to have only been practicing for two days)? And that is my all-time favorite song A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton! Oh you know the song with the beautiful melody! Just for a little reminder:

What’s so special about this song and pianos is that she actually inspired me to start learning to play the piano at such a young age. I couldn’t have been no more than like ten or eleven when dad called me into his room and he was like “hey, check out this girl!” And I peered onto the computer screen trying to get my eyes over his knees, and I just remember that she was floating around playing the piano. And the melody was so beautiful and everything about it just attracted me to piano playing. We had an electronic keyboard in the basement that I went and fished out and lugged it back to my room. Dusted it off and slid the little black button forward an inch, and it’s been in love ever since. ♥

Like I stated in a previous post, learning The Entertainer with my right hand was the very first song I learned to play, along with a lullaby of the Rugrats theme song! lol So you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I learned how to play it all the way through earlier this year (and still getting better at it) but I’m just so amazed that the one song that inspired my love for piano I’m actually learning how to play. And more than that, it’s fairly simple to learn! EEEEK!

And this song is inspiring the background music for my song “Butterflies”. Gosh I feel like a musician and my songs may never get in the top 100 songs. lol They inspire me. I suppose that’s all that really matters. But until next time,

Peace and Positivity ♥

R.I.P. Keyboard….

At least until I head to Walmart to get some more D batteries.:D

Yep, he finally gave out on me just now, I was in the middle of putting together a melody that has been buzzing around in my head lately. I think I told you guys already but I’m still playing around with the “background melody” to my song entitled Butterflies and I’m working on a different tune that’s unnamed but pretty awesome. Mind you this is no spectacular “Mozart” like piece but for me to just come up with it and play it by ear is some kind of accomplishment to me! I went and got a piano book (I think I’ve talked on that already too) so I’ve been learning notes somewhat and how to read them on a piano sheet. It’s kind of nice that I can recognize where “middle C” is and all the notes from there that go up and down and the staff names. I believe it is a bass clef and a treble clef……right? Okay I’m still learning you guys but I do know that that S-shape is for the right hand to play and the frowny face one (LOL!) is for the left hand notes. The top is for right, the bottom is for left. I think that’s basically how it’s written for piano music because I’ve been looking some of them up.

Yup, I still love my piano. Still getting better at The Entertainer and am now playing the intro to….Fur Elise? I think is the name. I don’t know. Just keep pressing keys but I’m trying to learn how to read it….it’s actually easy but still so very complicated especially now that I’m reading about keeping the time of each beat. I knew there was a reason why learning notes never clicked with me in elementary school.

But I’ll tell you something I haven’t been doing much of and that’s drawing. And painting. Been doing alot of everything else it seems plus the usual that comes with Life. But on the contrary I’ve gotten back (or trying to) get back into my fitness regimen. Anyways, I’m just rambling for now…..

Practicin The Piano

The piano has always been one of my favorite instruments. I can play pretty well too…..well, at least with my right hand. My left hand is like jello-awkward when it comes to combining the tunes. I don’t read sheet music either. I was in a music class in elementary school, you know when you had all those mandatory electives, and even with the teacher constantly repeating over and over about the half note, full beat, tone deaf note, I still never got it. It took me a WHILE to figure out the name of that pretty cursive ‘S’ that began every melody….actually, I think I forgot it AGAIN. Is it called a treble? I think, isn’t it something with T?

I’ve always played by ear, so I don’t really understand the whole aspects of piano chords, guitar chords, how to strike a key, none of that. So I’ve just started watching youtube and figured out a way to play the keys without catching cramps in my fingers. He said that there are 7 letters in a key ranging from A to G. And they just repeat over and over again. I’ve been practicing remembering that all night, so of course I pulled out my handy dandy piano keyboard that we’ve had for YEARS and was surprised at how well I still remembered how to play…..well, with my right hand that is. One of the first songs I ever learned how to play all the way through was “The Entertainer”, now I’m learning how to play along with my left hand as well. Everyday, my left hand gets less and less awkward with the keyboard.

After I get better with the piano, I would like to learn how to play the guitar as well. And I dunno, maybe I’ll keep on. I’ve just always been intrigued by those fast pianists, and I always said “MAN I wish I could play like that”. And you know what that means! Practice, practice, PRACTICE! I’m always giddy playing the piano with both hands even if I screw up majorly on a certain part. lol It comes with the territory of success. One day, I will buy a piano for my home….a white one…..yeah.

Along with practicing the piano, I’ve also been trying to practice my drawings some more too. I just want to be great at atleast ONE of my skills. With doing hair, drawing, painting, writing, playing the piano, I know I can do all of that. But I’m not GREAT at any of them! So many others succeed me and although they inspire me, it gets me to thinking….what talent do I posess? What is unique about me? I guess that’s why my mind is always racing from one thing to the next. And never finishing up one idea. I have a hard to committing to finishing projects, at least the ones that I am less than 75% committed to. lol

I’m just curios, now that I have SUBSCRIBERS!!! Oh, you guys don’t know how seeing those little emails of “soandso just started following UncommittedCoils” I’m always like “YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!” lol No really, I’m glad you all find at least ONE thing interesting about this blog. I guess I kinda got struck with a blank this past month as I haven’t been adding anything on here. You guys tell me what you find interesting about this blog and what I can do to improve it. And also, tell me what kind of talents you posess. Are you good at playing instruments or drawing or anything of the like? What inspires you? How’d you learn it? I’m really curious!
